The white-run Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office is trying to imprison a Black woman, Crystal Mason, whose conviction was overturned by the Texas Second Court of Appeals in March 2024, reports CNN.
Mason voted in the 2016 election, even though she was on supervised release following a conviction for felony tax fraud. Mason did not know that she had lost her Constitutional right to vote.
The Texas Second Court of Appeals ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove Mason knowingly voted illegally, noted FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, run by white man Phil Sorrells, claimed without evidence that Mason was a “fraudster.”
