Florida state Republican Clay Yarborough has authored a bill that would take trans children away from parents who seek medical help for their kids, reports Forbes.
The Los Angeles Blade notes that Yarborough’s bill SB 254 would instruct the state to remove children if they are “at risk” of legitimate transgender medical care (that is accepted by mainstream medicine, including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins , and the Cleveland Clinic):
Senate Bill 254 includes provisions for courts exercising temporary emergency jurisdiction over a child who “is at risk of or is being subjected to” gender affirming care; includes granting of warrants for physical custody over children “likely to imminently” receive gender affirming care; and imposing felony penalties on parents or healthcare providers providing gender affirming care to minors.
Florida Politics reports that Yarborough’s bill SB 1320 would ban people from speaking certain pronouns:
…prohibit people from using preferred pronouns that do not correspond with the gender identity assigned to the person at birth. It would also ban classroom instruction related to sexual orientation or gender identity until the ninth grade.
