Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) told Fox Business that he opposes President Biden funding the understaffed and underfunded IRS to protect “families.” In reality, a lack of funds makes it hard for the IRS to enforce U.S. laws on tax criminals, particularly the wealthy that use complicated tax evasion tricks. There is an estimated $400 billion in unpaid taxes yearly, notes the IRS, which also needs more money to assist law-abiding citizens with questions.
It's a shame the president wants to empower the IRS over families.— Rep. Adrian Smith (@RepAdrianSmith) March 13, 2023
In addition to reckless new taxes & wasteful spending, his budget also includes another $29 BILLION for IRS "enforcement and operations" - on top of the $80 billion included in the Inflation Act.
