While millions of Americans celebrate what they believe to be the end of the COVID pandemic by congregating in large groups without masks, the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning that the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant is likely to become the dominant source of infections this summer, reports Democracy Now.
While Americans partied, President Joe Biden issued a warning:
The Delta variant can cause more people to die in areas where people have not been vaccinated. Where people have gotten the two shots, the Delta variant is highly unlikely to result in anything.
The Washington Post reports that former Food and Drug Administration chief Scott Gottlieb said the contagious delta variant could spur a surge in coronavirus infections in the Fall if only 75 percent of the country’s eligible population is vaccinated.
