Republicans are refusing to attend a South Carolina town halls for bogus reasons while slandering South Carolinians whom they are paid tax dollars to represent, notes The Post and Courier:
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham recently dismissed the drumbeat as a leftist conspiracy, mocking some as “loonies” in a Facebook post.
U.S. Rep. Russell Fry, R-Surfside Beach, accused protestors who heckled him and Graham at a press conference on the Myrtle Beach wildfires of being backed by liberal financier George Soros.
And U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace cursed some for clogging up her office phone lines with their demands….
Mace, R-Charleston, rejected the demands on March 13, taking her frustrations to social media with a 59-second video where she derided the deluge of calls her office has received as coming from “the far-deranged left.”
“Stop blowing up our lines. Stop being (expletive) and start letting real people get their calls through,” Mace said as a phone on her end began to ring.
The comments from Mace are especially notable since she is openly weighing a statewide bid for governor next year and previously welcomed questions across the political spectrum.
During a January 2023 “Cocktails with your Congresswoman” event, Mace told constituents in Mount Pleasant: “Our doors are always open. I don’t care what your political affiliation is. I’m here to serve you.”
…Mace said she isn’t rejecting town halls in the future, only that she isn’t going to bend to the rude way the effort has been launched at her and her staff.
“We are not going to be bullied by paid agitators and far left activists who are threatening me, my employees, and my constituents,” Mace said.
Her office did not respond when the newspaper asked how the congresswoman had determined that the callers were paid agitators.
WCIV reports that mace was invited to a town hall by Mount Pleasant Town Councilwoman Guang Ming Whitley and other residents:
The Lowcountry Accountability Alliance, a grassroots organization dedicated to improving transparent communication between elected officials and their constituents, wants Mace, who represents South Carolina’s coastal 1st Congressional District, to host an in-person town hall meeting to address pressing issues affecting her constituents. The group emphasizes the need for direct dialogue with their elected representative to tackle these concerns.
“Our community deserves the opportunity to engage directly with our Representative to discuss how federal policies are impacting our daily lives. An in-person town hall with Congresswoman Mace will provide a platform for open dialogue and accountability,” said Whitley.
