Seattle police officer Daniel Auderer was caught on bodycam video laughing about the death Jaahnavi Kandula, 23, in an intersection on Jan. 24, reports KING.
The graduate student was killed in a crosswalk by another police officer who was driving 74 MPH when in 25 MPH zone, according to a case investigation report.
Officer Auderer said: “She was 26 anyway… Just write a check… $11,000… she had limited value.”
The officer who killed Kandula was not charged with any crime, but Officer Auderer is being investigated by the Office of Police Accountability.
Kandula’s family issued a statement:
It’s truly disturbing and saddening to hear comments on the bodycam video regarding Jaahnavi’s death from an SPD officer. Jaahnavi is a beloved daughter and beyond any dollar value for her mother & family. We firmly believe that every human life is invaluable and should not be belittled, especially during a tragic loss.
