Reality Winner — an ex-contractor for the National Security Agency who leaked a government report about Russia meddling in the 2016 election on behalf of Donald Trump — has been released from prison to a residential-reentry program, her attorney Alison Grinter Allen announced on Twitter.

The federal government arrested Winner and charged her with Espionage Act violations after The Intercept published a report about Winner’s leaked files in 2017, noted The New York Times.
However, Winner never actually committed an act of espionage, which is giving an enemy country U.S. secrets.
Winner told “CBS This Morning” in 2018 that she “deeply” regretted leaking the documents.
Winner’s family is calling on President Joe Biden to pardon her, reports Democracy Now.
