Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost — who is anti-abortion and “pro-life” — denied that a 10-year-old girl had been raped and impregnated in his state, and subsequently had to cross state lines for an abortion because of Ohio’s “heartbeat” law that effectively bans women’s health care even in the cases of rape and incest.
The Indianapolis Star first reported the story weeks ago, which Yost denied on Fox News‘ “Jesse Watters Primetime” on July 12:
I know our prosecutors and cops in this state, there’s not one of them that wouldn’t be turning over every rock in their jurisdiction if they had the slightest hint that this occurred.
However, The Columbus Dispatch proved that Yost was lying as the Columbus police were aware of the rape as far back as June 22:
Gershon Fuentes, 27, whose last known address was an apartment on Columbus’ Northwest Side, was arrested Tuesday after police say he confessed to raping the child on at least two occasions. He’s since been charged with rape, a felony of the first degree in Ohio.
Columbus police were made aware of the girl’s pregnancy through a referral by Franklin County Children Services that was made by her mother on June 22, Det. Jeffrey Huhn testified Wednesday morning at Fuentes’ arraignment. On June 30, the girl underwent a medical abortion in Indianapolis, Huhn said.
After proven to be a liar, Yost tweeted out some sympathy for the girl whom he would have forced to give birth:
