The organizers of the “No Kings” protest, that brought 7 million people together to oppose President Donald Trump, are calling for a boycott Spotify for running recruitment ads for Trump’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency that has repeated violated U.S. law, and detained and attacked Americans, notes SFGate:
“Spotify is exploiting the work of artists to line their pockets while recruiting for ICE — a secret police force that is terrorizing American communities. Spotify is actively amplifying the Trump regime’s drive to authoritarianism,” Indivisible wrote in a statement explaining the campaign.
SFGATE reported on the ads in mid-October, noting that they promise signing bonuses of up to $50,000 as well as benefits like tuition reimbursement. In response to questions about the ads, Spotify told SFGATE that the campaign did not violate its advertising standards, and suggested listeners use the thumbs-down rating system to keep ICE ads from reappearing in their feeds.
