Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Nancy Mace (R-SC) are attacking newly-elected transgender Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), whom Greene falsely accused of “assault” during an interview with convicted criminal and Trump advisor Steve Bannon:
I’m not kidding you. It is like a physical assault for a man to come in, charging into our private places, bathrooms, locker rooms, our gyms, places that are designated specifically for women only… It’s time for men in this country to defend women. I am so fed up with it, Steve
Studies have found no evidence to support claims that transgender people pose an increased safety threat in bathrooms, notes Research Gate.
Rep. Mace (R-SC) is introducing a binding resolution to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the House of Representatives, reports KSDK. Mace said it would require the Sergeant at Arms to enforce it.
Rep. Sarah McBride responded to the Republican bigotry on Twitter:
This is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing. We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars.
