Pop star Britney Spears asked a judge to end her father’s conservatorship power over her by citing some of the more bizarre conditions she has been forced to live under for 13 years, notes VICE:
It is my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back. After I’ve told the whole world I’m OK, it’s a lie. I’m not happy, I can’t sleep, I’m depressed, I cry every day... I have an IUD in my body right now that won’t let me have a baby, and my conservators won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out.
Spears said her lawyer, whom she did not choose, never told her that she could ask a judge to end the conservatorship:
I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. My request is to end the conservatorship without being evaluated like before... [My father] loved the control he had over me, one hundred thousand percent.
The New York Times reports that Spears father, James Spears, makes $16,000 per month as a salary for being her conservator, twice the monthly allowance the singer is given. James also gets money from his daughter’s world tours, which she has stopped along with her Las Vegas residency.
Spears isn’t allowed to have control of her own credit cards, and must get her dad’s approval for basic decisions such as repainting her kitchen cabinets and making new friends.
