The Johnson family considered themselves anti-vaccine before getting COVID-19 around July 4 because they thought their illness was somehow related to a heat wave in Kennewick, Washington.
Nadine Johnson, the mom, told KEPR: “I lost my taste and smell, and that’s when we realized we had COVID.”
Patrick Johnson, the dad, was hospitalized on oxygen, lost 25 pounds, suffered pneumonia in both lungs, acute kidney injury and respiratory failure:
We had made the decision that that vaccine was not for us, and now I feel like we’ve been given a second chance. It was a life changing experience. I was totally against it but if it gives me a second chance, it’s worth the shot.
