Republican-controlled Alabama is requiring women, who need medical cannabis, to take pregnancy tests, reports AL.com:

For women between the ages of 11-50, the state requires pregnancy tests every 30 days to keep their registration current, unless they can show proof they’ve had surgery that prevents having children.

“I am not aware of any other state that has a framework like this,” said Dana Sussman, senior vice president of national legal and advocacy nonprofit Pregnancy Justice. “This, I think, is the first sort of mechanism of regular surveillance, regular proving that you’re not pregnant in order to access something that is available to, or should be available to everyone.”

…Across the nation, 42 states and the District of Columbia allow residents to access medical cannabis products. An AL.com review of every state’s medical cannabis laws and guidance for doctors and patients found that unlike Alabama, most states don’t require pregnancy tests, let alone regularly occurring tests or ban access to medical cannabis during pregnancy.
