A four-year-old girl, Kali Cook, was diagnosed on Sept. 6 with the coronavirus, developed a fever around 2 a.m. on Sept. 7, which her family gave her medicine to relieve, but died in her sleep before 7 a.m. in Galveston County, Texas, reports The (Galveston County) Daily News.
KHOU notes the girl did not catch COVID-19 at her pre-school, but likely got it from a family member.
The girl’s mother, Karra Harwood,, said she regrets not getting vaccinated:
I was one of the people that was anti, I was against it. Now, I wish I never was.
The county’s local health authority, Philip Keiser, said children who have any symptoms should receive medical care as soon as possible:
This is a terrible thing, but I think people need to know about it. It’s very important, if your kids are sick, not to say, “Oh, they’re going to be okay.” If your kids are sick, go seek out medical care.
