A group of students, who refused to wear life-saving masks at Washougal High School in Washington state, are being praised by right wingers, including “pro-life” advocates.
The students appear in a Feb. 2 viral video where one tells them not to wear masks: “We are just trying to gain back our rights as citizens. ” The student never mentions the “rights” that have been taken.
The Columbian reports there was a counter-protest against the science-denying students
Washougal Principal Sheree Gomez-Clark said the protests first began Monday, where as many as 100 students assembled outside the school. Students were offered masks when they arrived to school unmasked and were directed to hold their demonstration outside when they refused. A smaller group of masked students, she said, formed an unofficial counter-protest in response.
A second video showed the science-denying students trying to enter the school without masks, being turned away and celebrating. The students were praised by right wingers on Twitter.
